Athlete of the Year is an annual award given to Slovakia's best athletes and sports teams. It is a journalistic poll, and its tradition dates back to 1959. The formal announcement of the results of the SSN Sports Editors' Club poll in cooperation with the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee takes place every year in December at a gala event.
